چکیده
Electric space propulsion is a technology which employed on continuously increasing number of spacecrafts. While the current focus their application area telecommunication satellites and exploration missions, several new ideas are now discussed that go even further apply thruster plume particle flow for transferring momentum to targets such as debris objects or asteroids. In these potential scenarios, beam impacts distant subsequently generates changes in flight path. One aspect so far has not been systematically investigated interaction charged particles with magnetic fields present space. Microspike Based Chemical/Electric Thruster Concept for Versatile Nanosat Propulsion
Small spacecraft that can be categorized as microsats, nanosats, and picosats has a strong potential for wide applications in communication, scientific experiments, and space exploration. In order to combine the advantages of both electric and chemical propulsion thrusters, a dual-mode microspike based thruster concept is proposed. For a fixed input power, it can operate in either a high-Isp mo...
متن کاملIntegrated out-of-plane nanoelectrospray thruster arrays for spacecraft propulsion
Nanoelectrosprays, well known for their use in sample injection for the mass spectrometry of large biomolecules, can also be used in other applications such as spacecraft propulsion. The thrust generated by a single electrospray emitter is well below 1 μN, which is several orders of magnitude below the required thrust for planned formation flying missions. This paper presents the process flow a...
متن کاملElectric-Field Losses in Ground Systems
The efficiency of ground-based antennas is highly determined by the power dissipated in the ground plane, which can be separated into H-field and E-field losses. In this paper, a new approach is presented for the separation of ground losses that is based on Joule's law. It is theoretically valid at any frequency. Nevertheless, some simplifications can be applied in the lowand medium-frequency b...
متن کاملResonant snubber-based soft-switching inverters for electric propulsion drives
This paper summarizes recently developed soft-switching inverters and proposes two alternative options for electric propulsion drives. The newly developed soft-switching inverter employs an auxiliary switch and a resonant inductor per phase to produce a zero voltage across the main switch so that the main switch can turn on at the zero-voltage condition. Both the auxiliary switch and the resona...
متن کاملNew Laser Applications for Electric Propulsion
Various applications of lasers to electric propulsion problems have previously been made, and laser techniques are potentially powerful means to address and resolve a range of current issues. Studies with sufficiently high resolution and sensitivity to reveal the fine details of velocity, density, and temperature distributions for trace species will be especially valuable. Continuous narrowband...
